Well, well, well, lookie here, they got this here watch, they call it the CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster Skywalker X-33. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Like some kinda space thing. My grandson, he’s always goin’ on about space and rockets and such. Maybe this here watch is for them space fellas.
This here watch, it ain’t like them old-timey watches. You know, the kind you gotta wind up all the time? Nah, this one’s got all sorts of newfangled doohickeys. They say it’s an “upgrade,” whatever that means. Probably means it costs more, huh? Always does.
They say this watch is for them astronaut folks, and pilots. You know, the ones flyin’ them airplanes way up high? My neighbor, Mildred, her boy used to be a pilot. Flew one of them crop dusters. He said it was mighty dangerous. Maybe he needed a watch like this. Keep him on time for supper, I reckon.
This here Skywalker, it’s got all kinda functions. I don’t rightly know what they all are, but it sounds mighty impressive. Like one of them Swiss Army knives, but for your wrist. Probably tells the time, too. That’s important, you know. Gotta know when it’s time for my stories on the TV. Can’t miss them.
- This thing, it’s made outta titanium. Fancy, huh?
- It’s got them digital numbers. Like them calculators.
- Keeps good time, they say. Accurate and reliable. Like a good mule.
- Don’t need to wind it up. Just runs and runs.
They say it’s got somethin’ called a “quartz movement.” Sounds like somethin’ you’d find in the ground. Maybe they dug it up somewhere. And this other thing, “calibre 5619.” Sounds like a rifle. Maybe it shoots lasers, too! Just kiddin’, just kiddin’. But it does sound powerful, don’t it? My other grandson, he likes guns. He would like that.
This here watch ain’t like them old Moonwatches, neither. Them Moonwatches, they’re old-fashioned. Like me, I guess. This Skywalker, it’s all new and shiny. Like a new penny. But probably costs more than a whole jar of pennies. They say it was made in 1998, that was a long time ago.
They got all these fancy words for it. “Thermo-compensated integrated circuit.” What in tarnation does that even mean? Sounds like somethin’ you’d find in one of them computers. My granddaughter, she’s got one of them computers. Always clickin’ and clackin’ on it. Maybe this watch is like a computer for your wrist.
This watch it is made for them space explorers. They are brave going up there. I would never do that, I don’t like heights. I don’t even like planes. If you ask me, staying on the ground is just fine. If god wanted us to fly, we would have wings. I wonder if these space explorers are scared. They should be.
I remember when they first landed on the moon. We watched it on our little black and white TV. It was somethin’ else, I tell ya. Now they got watches that go to space, too. What will they think of next? Maybe they’ll make a watch that does the dishes. Now that’s somethin’ I’d like to see. I always did hate doin’ dishes.
This CopyOMEGA, or whatever they call it, it’s a fancy piece of work. Too fancy for me, I reckon. I’ll stick with my old watch. It tells the time just fine. And it don’t need no batteries or nothin’. Just a good windin’ every now and then. Like me, I guess. Just need a little windin’ up every now and then, and I’m good to go.

It’s got all the bells and whistles, that’s for sure. Just don’t ask me to explain how it all works. I’m just an old lady, you know. I don’t know nothin’ about all that space-age stuff.
I saw my grandson with a watch like this once. I asked him how much it was and he told me. I almost fainted. That is too much money for a watch if you ask me. What’s wrong with the 5 dollar one from the supermarket? I don’t see no difference. These young people and their money, I tell you.
